New countertops in North Charleston

Maybe the laminate by your sink has started to lift at the seams. Maybe you're gutting the kitchen and want stone this time. North Charleston Countertops does both kinds of job. We measure your cabinets, help you pick a material, fit the new top and finish the edges.

We work in homes all over North Charleston and in the towns around it, from Hanahan and Goose Creek out to Summerville and Mount Pleasant.

How a job runs

You call or send the quote form and tell us about the room. We come out and measure every run of cabinet and every corner, and we mark where the sink, the outlets and the cooktop (the burners set into the counter) will sit. You choose the material and the edge, and we write up a quote. Once you say yes, we cut the tops to size and fit them.

Natural stone

Granite countertops

We fit granite countertops in kitchens, on islands and on bathroom vanities. Ask to see the actual slab, not just a small sample, before you sign off on it.

Quartzite countertops

We fit quartzite countertops too. The U.S. Geological Survey describes quartzite as a natural rock formed from sandstone. It is not the same thing as quartz, even though the names are close, so ask us which one a sample is before you choose.

Marble countertops

We fit marble countertops in kitchens and bathrooms. Ask us how marble will hold up next to your stove or your coffee maker before you commit to it.

Soapstone countertops

We fit soapstone countertops in kitchens and on islands. The U.S. Geological Survey describes soapstone as a rock that contains talc, the softest mineral. Bring us a photo of the look you want and we'll tell you if soapstone gets you there.

Engineered and other surfaces

Quartz countertops

Quartz countertops are engineered stone. NIOSH, the federal worker-safety institute, says engineered stone is also called artificial stone, manufactured stone or quartz. OSHA says making the slabs often involves mixing silica powder, resins and pigments. We fit quartz in kitchens, baths and laundry rooms.

Solid surface countertops

We fit solid surface countertops, which are man-made sheets rather than stone, where you want one plain, even color from end to end.

Porcelain countertops

We fit porcelain countertops for owners who want a thin, modern slab. Talk to us about the edge, because on a thin slab we think the edge finish makes or breaks the look.

Concrete countertops

We fit concrete countertops in kitchens and outdoor spaces where you want a top poured to your own shape and color.

Butcher block countertops

We fit butcher block countertops on islands and baking stations. Ask us what upkeep wood will need in a kitchen like yours.

Rooms and jobs

Kitchen countertops

For kitchen countertops we handle long runs, corners, islands and the cutouts for sinks and cooktops.

Bathroom vanity tops

We fit bathroom vanity tops for single and double sinks, in stone or solid surface.

Outdoor kitchen countertops

Outdoor kitchen countertops sit out in the sun and the rain. Ask us which materials we'd put outside before you choose.

Countertop replacement, repair and backsplash

We do countertop replacement, from taking out the old top to fitting the new one. For a chip or a loose seam, ask about countertop repair first. Once the new top is in, we can do the backsplash installation to match. The backsplash is the strip of tile or stone on the wall behind the counter.

Stone dust and where the cutting happens

OSHA and NIOSH warn that workers who cut, grind and polish stone countertops can breathe in crystalline silica dust. That dust causes silicosis, a lung disease with no cure. Their joint hazard alert says granite can contain up to 50% crystalline silica and engineered stone up to 95%. Marble and limestone contain little or none.

Their advice to the trade is to do as much of the work as possible in the shop instead of at the install site. Where some finishing has to happen on site, they say to do it outdoors and use water to keep the dust down. So ask whoever quotes you where the stone will be cut.

Permits in North Charleston

The City of North Charleston has a separate permit for plumbing work. With the application, the city asks for a contract that spells out the scope of work, including the cost of materials and labor. If your new layout moves the sink or any pipes, we'll tell you before we start whether your job needs that permit.

Questions about countertops in North Charleston

Can you put new countertops on my old cabinets?

We can, as long as the cabinets are solid and level. We check them when we measure, and we'll tell you if any need fixing first.

Is quartz the same as quartzite?

No. Quartzite is a natural rock that formed from sandstone. Quartz countertops are engineered stone, often made by mixing silica powder with resins and pigments.

Do you fix chipped countertops, or only replace them?

Both. We'll look at the damage and tell you whether a repair will hold or the top should go.

Can you do the backsplash at the same time?

Yes. We fit the backsplash once the countertop is in, so the two line up.

Which areas do you cover?

All of North Charleston, plus Hanahan, Goose Creek, Charleston, Summerville, Mount Pleasant, James Island and Moncks Corner.
